The baby shower originated in the late eighteen hundreds and got its name from the “showering” of love and gifts for the Mommy-to-Be. The baby shower started as a tea party for only women who would share the day with the Mommy-to-Be and her female family members. The gifts given to the new mom were very practical in nature as well as handmade.

Today, anyone other than the Mommy-to-Be and her mom, can host the baby shower. It is most often for the best friend, aunt, or sister to throw the Mommy-to-Be the baby shower. The important thing is that someone take the initiative to host the shower. What a wonderful display of caring for a growing family and a special way to help welcome a new life into the world.
